: Graphic Representation of Complex Information
When
: Winter 2010
Description: The objective of the assignment was to create a 24” by 18” poster that transcended a generic list of dates. I chose to show time through the use of graphic elements while using the hierarchy of type to create rhythm amongst each modular date.

: Structure and Expressiveness in Visual Communication
When
: Fall 2009
Description: The assignment was to design a calendar for three different months that included the name of the month, the year, the seven days of the week—and the dates of the month. I began my process with a primary grid and structure, followed by the development of elements that would interact with the numbers of the first grid. The explosion of shapes in perspective was derived from the negative space found between typeface characters, ultimately spelling the name of the month and year. My goal was to create a design that maintained functionality, while creating a layered aesthetically pleasing design statement.

: Poster Design
When
: Summer 2009
Description: The objective of the assignment was to research an architect and to illustrate that person through a 30″ by 40″ composition.  As Charles Eames made major contributions in many fields of design including industrial design, furniture design, art, graphic design, film and architecture, he captured the essence of the human creativity I sought to depict. Further to Charles’ credit, he and his wife Ray pioneered innovative technologies, such as the fiberglass, plastic resin and wire mesh chairs designed for Herman Miller.  In my composition, I illustrated his greatest works, along with Eames House in the background.

Description: The UM Emergency Alert System is a mass, urgent notification system, comprised of a variety of methods by which the University can contact students, faculty and staff of an active, major campus emergency. These methods include: text messages, voice messages, and e-mails.  I was tasked to design a series of flyers that encouraged students, faculty and staff to sign up.  I took a different approach by designing outside of the generic university flyer, and by using iconic cellular phones, such as the BlackBerry and iPhone, which are widely popular among the university’s population.
